HOW DOES AN ARTIFICIAL LAWN STAND UP AGAINST MOLES?
Can moles dig under artificial grass?
Moles do not like artificial grass so they normally will not dig under an artificial lawn. Moles are attracted by worms and insects that live in top soil on which moles feed. The base of an artificial lawn is no ideal environment for these food sources so moles are rarely a problem.
However, if there was a mole living in your old natural lawn and that mole was not removed before the artificial turf is installed, it can cause a great deal of damage. The mole will surface above ground and dig under your artificial lawn making it collapse.
If you are installing artificial grass in an area with a mole problem, it is best to use a hard core/aggregate base that prevents the moles from tunnelling. You can also use a ‘mole barrier’ (hardware cloth).
