Is artificial grass permeable?
Is artificial grass permeable or will my lawn stay wet for a long time and which drainage system should I use?
Artificial grass is permeable by nature. The carpet backing is provided with drain holes to drain the water. So artificial grass will not stay wet for very long, in fact it will be dry quickly again!
Naturally, the water underneath the artificial grass carpet needs to be drained too. That is why a permeable surface is necessary. For this reason we advise you not to install artificial grass on top of black earth. Click here to find out more about the subsurface for artificial grass.
In case of a hard subsurface, such as concrete or asphalt, a drainage system needs to be in place. If this is not taken care of, puddles of water can remain on your artificial lawn. There are different types of drainage mats available.
